Writing style & learning

Open Settings → Writing style. At the top is About you — a few taps that tell Veda who you are. Below it is the learned profile, which Veda builds from how you actually write.

#About you

Pick what fits; skip anything you like. Tap a selected pill again to clear it.

• What do you do? — Developer, Designer, Product/Manager, Founder, Sales, Support, Marketing, Student, Teacher or Other.
• Who do you usually write to? — any of Teammates, Clients, Managers, Customers, Friends.
• Your tone, Reply length and Emoji.
• Languages you write in — pick any, or + Add your own. Mixed languages are kept as you write them.

#Anything else Veda should know?

Open this for rules in your own words. It starts empty. For example:

Sign emails as Alex, never Alexander.
Say "PR", not "pull request".
Keep ticket IDs, file paths and code exactly as typed.

These win over your About you answers and over anything Veda has learned, and Veda never edits them.

#How learning works

Veda learns from your edits. After Veda puts text in a field, it keeps an eye on that field for about a minute. If you change its wording before sending, what you actually sent is saved as a sample — "this is how I'd put it." Text Veda wrote that you sent unchanged isn't learned from, so Veda never learns from itself. Very short snippets and pasted documents are skipped.

Once enough new samples have built up — 20 by default — Veda writes a short profile of your style in one AI call. The profile goes into every later request, so it gets closer to you over time.

The Writing style page shows Samples, Your edits, and how many new samples there are since the last pass. Learn now runs a pass straight away.

#Settings on this page

• Learn from my writing — switch learning off entirely. (Also on Settings → Home as Learn my writing.)
• Pick the tone automatically — let Veda choose between casual, friendly-professional and professional by reading the conversation.
• Reply in their language and My language — see Reply in their language.
• Re-learn after — how many new samples trigger a learning pass, from 5 to 100.
• Never learn from these apps — Veda never saves samples from apps on this list. It starts with password managers: 1Password, Bitwarden, Keychain Access, LastPass and Dashlane. Add any running app with + Add app.

#The learned profile

Until the first learning pass it's empty — the page shows Nothing learned yet and how many samples Veda has so far. Nothing made up is sent in your name.

After that it's written by Veda, in plain sentences you can read — "Short sentences.", "No greeting unless the thread already has one." You can:

• Edit it by hand. (The next learning pass may rewrite it — put anything permanent in Anything else Veda should know?)
• Reset it — clear it and start learning again.
• Forget samples — delete the saved samples, keeping the profile.

To wipe everything Veda has learned in one go, use Forget everything learned on the Privacy page. About you stays.

#Where it lives

About you, your notes, the profile and the samples are files in ~/Library/Application Support/Veda/ on a Mac and %AppData%\Veda\ on Windows. Samples are sent to the AI only during a learning pass, to write the profile; after that, the profile travels inside each request. None of it is kept on Veda's server.

On the trial and Veda Pro, learning passes don't count towards your rewrite limit.
