Click into an empty message box in a conversation and tap the key. Veda reads the conversation on screen, works out which messages are yours and which are theirs, and writes your next message. Then it's yours to edit or send.
How Veda replies
The thing Veda is built to avoid is the "assistant reply" — the one that thanks everyone and repeats the thread back to the people who wrote it. So a drafted reply:
- Answers the latest message that needs something from you — a question, a request, news, a joke — not the whole thread.
- Answers, confirms, reacts or gives a quick update. If something you'd need to know really isn't clear, it asks one short question instead.
- Never recaps the thread. It doesn't repeat their tasks, numbers or wording back to them.
- Uses only facts from the conversation. It won't invent dates, numbers, links, names or promises. If the answer needs something you haven't said, it keeps it open — "will check and get back to you".
- Follows up naturally if the newest message is already yours and nobody has answered.
- Sounds like you, not an assistant: no "Sure!", "Great question", "I hope this helps", no over-thanking.

Tone and place
The reply fits where you are. In chat it's short, with no greeting unless the thread uses them. In email it opens with their name, gets to the point, and ends with a clear next step. In a ticket it's factual and scannable. See App-aware writing.
Tone follows the room: banter with teammates, friendly-professional for everyday work, and fully professional with clients or anyone new — never more formal than the people in the thread. This is Pick the tone automatically in Settings → Rewrite, on by default.
Language
By default, a reply comes back in the language the other person wrote in. See Reply in their language.
Starting a conversation
In an empty box with no conversation to read, a tap drafts a short opening message. For anything specific, hold the key instead and describe what to write in Edit mode — for example ask Sam if Thursday still works for the review.
If it can't see the conversation
Veda reads what the app exposes on screen. Some apps show little of the thread to the system, and then the reply has less to go on. Scrolling so the latest messages are visible can help.
