Explain, summarise & translate
For reading, not writing. Select someone else's text, hold the key, and get it explained, boiled down or translated — copied and ready to use.
Most of Veda is about writing your own messages. These three are about understanding someone else's: a dense email, an error message, a paragraph in another language.
How to use them
- Select the text — in a message, an email, a web page, a PDF.
- Hold the trigger key for half a second and let go. The Edit bar opens with a Read row first: Explain, Summarise and Translate.
- Click one. The answer appears in the bar's preview.
- Click Copy (or press ⌘C / Ctrl+C). The answer is on your clipboard and the bar closes.
Read results are copied, never pasted — they're about someone else's words, and there may be nowhere of yours to paste them. The selected text itself is never changed.
What each one does

| Explain | What it means and why it matters, in plain words and at most five short sentences. For code or an error: what it does or what went wrong, and the most likely fix. |
| Summarise | Up to four short bullets: the point, any decision, any ask or deadline, and who's involved. Nothing that isn't in the text. |
| Translate | The text in your language, keeping names, numbers and technical terms. If it's already in your language, it's translated into English. |
Set your language in Settings → Writing style → My language. It's English until you change it.
Mixing reading and writing
The Read row shows whenever there's a selection. If you selected text inside your own message, the writing presets are there too — and a read result never becomes your draft. You can Explain a sentence, go Back, then click Shorten, and Shorten works on your message, not on the explanation.
Where there's no field of yours at all — a web page, a PDF — only the Read row appears. You can still type your own instruction, like translate to French and keep it formal, and the result is copied the same way.
Usage
Each read action counts as one request on the trial and Veda Pro. Nothing you select is stored.
